myspace vs blogspot

i have had a website for a few years (www.richardlett.com) then I added a blog with blogspot. this immediately got me in trouble, as I learned after a week how public this venue was. I have always had strong opinions about things, and have never been afraid to express it. However, printed words can easily be manipulated to make the writer look bad, so I have learned to be careful what I write. Since then, myspace.com has become a big thing and so i added that to my internet profile. the cool thing about myspace is the network of other myspacer's that it promotes. i now have more friends on myspace then I've ever had in my life - total, and some of them i even know!

i saw a newspiece on russel peters, a comic from TO that I know. he had a video of his show downloaded and it went around the world online, and he became the most downloaded comedian ever, and now he's living in hollywood, and doing great. so now i have some video that is on my website, so i put it on my myspace, and i'm hoping that people will watch it and pass it on. can't hurt. I have some new tape from my show in Vancouver at YukYuks, so I'll get some of that on too. i did shows at lafflines and stages on friday, and now i off to do a set at the median club. I missed it last week so, I wanna do it tonight. Byron's doing a show at darby's tomorrow, so I'll drop in for a set. and then I'll hang at the well on tuesday. there's this jazz player named Billy who wants me to do a set at Calhoon's on Sundays or Tuesdays. Maybe I'll use it to warm up for the Well on Tuesday.

I hung out at the well on Saturday Night, and all my drinks were on the house. it was pretty cool. Guy, the journalist (mole) in the community, tried to get a rise out of me by starting thread on the comedycouch.com talking about me finally having the "Nerve" to do a set there. As my readers already know, there was no nerves involved, just an oldstanding beef that only still existed because of this policy of not letting me on. That policy changed, as Sean Proudlove announced loudly on the patio at the Well a couple of weeks ago. and so last Tuesday, he put me on, as "the Bullet" - but i was on. And it worked out well. simple as that. but Guy likes to stir things up, and nobody stirs better than me. his radio show "What's So Funny" pretty much got off the ground when I went down there and laid down to quoteable quotes. so he wants more from me. it just seems more useful to draw readers to my own sites then somebody else's. plus, this new status at the Well is tenuous, and I don't need it kicked around as gossip, i just wanna do shows there. it is viewed as vancouver's best room, and with the adjustments that p-love has made(including putting me on), it is. so who knows, maybe even get a show at the festival this year...

but my new stuff about the terrorists planning to cut off stephan harper's head (really, you'd do that for us!) and the rcmp guys getting married (spread 'em! Not you - the criminal!!)

and the three armed chinese boy - all killing all over town. i'm out - rl

director and action from "Family in Hiding"

pics from the set

tonight at the well

well, well, well, after almost six years, (if one excludes the showcase p-love put me on a couple years ago) I returned to perform at the urban well. i would be lying to say it didn't feel good, and so, as a celebration of satan's birthday, i took the bullet. went good (I was gonna say well, but the pun is growing thin, and outwiehged grammer).
Then i hung out.

k.foxx told me of how the stolen bicycle story ended, and it would be unfair to my loyal readers, to not tell it. as you may remember, kfoxx bought a stolen bike from a junkie, determined to return it to its rightful owner. so...
the next day he phones the police back. k.foxx tells the woan cop on the phone how he bought a stolen bike for 15 bucks, and would like to return it to its rightful owner. the woman advised him that he was admitting to buying stolen goods, but undaunted, he reassured her that he was merely trying to return it. she advised him to say nothing else (as all these conversations are recorded) and gave him a line for a community police station. kfoxx didn't get an answer there so he took the bike around to a local station to return it. so he peddled his stolen goods around trying to find a station that was open.

unfortunately, he found one.

he explained to the cop what had happened, and how he wanted to return the bike, and all he needed was his fifteen dollars back. the cop pointed out that he had just admitted to buying stolen goods (a felony - i believe)and was now trying to extort money for it. the cop suggested that the real story was that kfoxx had stolen the bike himself, and was feeling bad about it, and now was trying to sell it to them. realizing (FINALLY) that he was in trouble, kfoxx told the cop that if wanted to arrest him, do it, but he's leaving the bike and going.

later, a different cop phoned him, and left a number. kfoxx phoned it, but there was no answer. who knows how long this would have gone, except kfoxx's dad was visiting, heard the story, and somehow convinced him that a "Citizen of the Year" award was unlikely, and DO Not phone the cop again. the bike will be available for auction some time soon. i miss my dad for such solid support.

i hung out for a bit, Stacey (barkeep)and Trevor(manager) both said i had a great set and were glad to see me back. then I "played the dozens" with john bueler, and won, as usual, and came home. tommorrow, i have photos and stories from the film shoot today.

wonky weekend

its monday, and i'm in a funk because of my weekend. my timing seems to be off. not on the stage, but getting to the stage. it did a middle spot at lafflines on friday, covering for dave copeman. I sold three cd's after my set, but i decided to hang around till the end of the show, to see if I could sell some more. i was going to stages after that, and thought i could make it in time to do a set. i didn't sell any after the show, so then I headed to Vancouver, in time for the end of the show at stages, but it ended early, and they had a good crowd, and I missed it. so i ended up partying with stu hughes and his friends till late, which was fun, but i was hurting for cash, and i'm pretty sure I coulda unloaded some CD's at stages if I had left earlier. so last night, I had planned to go to a jazz bar that a guy named Billy had invited me too, but I couldn't remember the name of this club. I had written down on a piece of newspaper and then misplaced it. so the poetess wanted to go to thundering word to be part of the benefit for T-paul, who usually runs the show, but he had an anherism and was in hospital. so i got on the list to perfrom, but i didn't get on till late. I should have told RC i wanted to get to another show, but I didn't , so he put me up after the break. Well at the break pretty much everybody left, so i decided to bot over to the media club. well that show eneded early as well, and was done. so now i'm feeling like i've got three shows caught in my throat.

I'm shooting this movie tomorrow(Family in Hiding), so that should be fun. Still not totally clear on the character. i'm an undercover FBI agent, who is going as a meth head, according to the script. but then the costume people phoned and asked me to bring clothes that were "Euro-trash" which seems more like coke and meth. anyway, I'll load up a bunch of clothes - leave my beard untrimmed, and hope to come up with it all "one the day" (as they say a lot in the film world.)

cool pictures of NYC

It was a year ago that I was New York City. A lot has happened since then, but I still remember it fondly as quite an adventure. I launched my CD, had some friends that came from Montreal and Toronto to help, stay in a Hostel, and performed with some of the best in the business - in short, a stark contrast from the wankers from hogtown.
