writing, composing and smoking

Have been writing a lot, lately. Managed to get "She Got Fat" finished for the finals during the break at the slam last week, and it killed (thus 2nd only to Zach). Meanwhile, I'm composing music. I finished "Marla's Eyes" and played it for her. She loved it. Meanwhile, in order to get that song out of my head, I started on a new one, "The Path". It's sorta gospel, or at least spiritual. Now I wanna write a country song called "Playing Hooky on My Heart". I would include lyrics, and some of my new poems, including "Insomnia", "Crocuses" and "She Got Fat", but my friend K, (who specializes in things to worry about) tells me that the jury is still out on whether putting something on a blog is "publishing". If it is, then I would lose the right to sell these to another publisher, so sorry, you'll have to come out to one of the slam and hear them in person.

I am also working on a book based on my experiences driving escorts called "The Driver" and a new play "The Doormen".

Somehow in the midst of this I manage to do stand-up, but the summer is very slow for that, so putting my energy into other creative pursuits is a good use of this time. It is also refreshing not to do stand-up all the time. My tour in the fall will require full-time attention stand-up, so taking some time off it is refreshing.

Also, I'm scheduled for surgery this week. More on that later...
