sunday night on the prowl

managed to crack off two sets tonight. the first one was at darby's (4th and macdonald). This is a room that ran before, but now its being run by byron bertram. so i went and did a set on his first show there. went really well! sold five cd's there. in a small crowd. then i headed off to try to find the show Zach Galifinackis was doing, but could find the spot. (somewhere in the library!) Anyway, I was down by the media club, so I dropped in there. alana, the bartender and promoter there slid me a couple jack daniels and I did a set, for only a few people, but i rocked - new stuff lit 'em up. that's when stand up is the most fun, when it's just something you can do to make people happy. no one else around, just you and an audience. reminds me of being a blues player, like when jeff danials sneaks off to play jazz in the "fabulous baker boys". Then a friend dragged me off to some bar to tell me about a sociopath that she just broke up with. "I hated him when I met him, but then we hooked up and he told all these things, but turned out he was lying and he's a real asshole." fuck - hello? what even happened to female intuition? "He asked me to marry him and then dumped me when I said yes." How do I end up in these discussions? "I used a vibrator in bed, cause he couldn't get..." okay i've had enough - thanks.

Hosting the show at Lafflines this weekend, so that should be fun. Working with Herb Dixon, the Harley Guy. Herb and I worked together a bunch years ago, but i haven't seen him in awhile, so I'm looking forward to it. He rans Snickers in Kelowna, which was always a gas. He liked to book you on a good hour, hour and half notice - pick you up, and drive at break neck speeds to the okanagan. he always speeds. his mother, Patti D. (her stage name) took to doing stand-up a few years ago, and was quite successful at it, at the age of seventy or so. She still does it, as far as I know. I guess I'll find out this weekend. ANyone who wants to see the show, just contact me through my website, and I'll get you in. I'm out
Richard
